on the 11th of June 2022, we will be hosting our very first GBJ Open Nationals – showcasing our first JJIF rules Sports Jujitsu.

We have been supported by the wonderful Dave McFarland, founder of Shinka Jujitsu Academy and we can’t thank him and the club enough.

Today, I caught up with Dave to find out more about the club and to see how he is doing.

Hi Dave – tell us all about Shinka Ju-jitsu!

Shinka Ju-Jitsu academy was established in 2018 by myself, as I wanted to provide a permanent martial arts training facility in the North Staffordshire area. I was inspired by the training facility used during my time competing in the WCJJO sport Ju-Jitsu world championships on Australia’s gold coast in 2017 as part of Team GB.

I have 40 years of martial arts experience in both training and competing at all levels and have 25 years of teaching/instructing experience in Ju-Jitsu.

Shinka Ju-Jitsu Academy is a family-run, family-friendly academy open to all abilities. We cater from the age of 4 to 80. People who train at the Dojo do so for various reasons, including self-defence, sport, fitness or the art.
The academy boasts a 108 square meter matted training area, a seated spectator area, and plentiful free off-road parking.

So what made you want to support the GBJ?

I wanted to sponsor this event as I am currently involved with the GBJ as a squad member. I really want to further support the GBJ in its new venture/chapter. The GBJ Nationals is a new national federation that recently got accepted by the JJIF (Jujitsu International Federation). We’re all really excited as to where we might go next and if I can help just a little, then fantastic!
