In August 2024 we want to take a team over to Croatia to represent the Great Britain Jujitsu squad, as recognised by the WCJJO and JJIF.

Gi & No Gi BJJ in Zadar Croatia – How do I get involved?

There are 3 events in Croatia, No Gi and Gi BJJ grappling, together with a country team event. From the 21st August to the 23rd August 2024. Weigh-ins are the day before the event, in LONG shorts and a t-shirt. You would be representing Great Britain and there are some restrictions on what you can wear, when competing.

In addition, on Sunday, there is a Nations Cup, where each country enters a team, usually 3 men and 2 women – so as well as fighting for your gold medal, you can also compete for the Nations Cup medals too.

This is the procedure to enter the JJIF World Jiujitsu Cup in Zadar, Croatia.

FAQ’s

What is the qualifying criteria to fight?

We can enter up to 4 competitors per weight category, so if your weight bracket is full, we may need to ask you to go up or down a weight category.

Depending on the number of entries, we may need to seed fighters, which will be done by the highest competition-wins and if this is even with another competitor, we will then look at ranking, in the following order: Worlds, Internationals, continentals, nationals, regionals.

It is worth noting, there is no belt level at this competition.

Is there funding?

Currently, there is no funding. It is purely self-funded. We encourage sponsorship and will help if you need assistance in applying for any local grants.

What uniform can you wear?

For Ne Waza, in Gi, you must wear a white Gi. It doesn’t matter what make it is, but it must be plain white. It must conform to the JJEU rules and regulations and is likely to be checked before stepping onto the mats. You will need to bring 1 x blue belt and 1 x red belt to every competition.
We will provide a JJIF European backpatch for £10 and get this shipped to you.
NoGi – the rashguard must be 80% blue or red. We have these ready, just complete the order form and we will send them out to you.

When are weigh ins?

Weigh-ins are the day before. So for NoGi it will be on the Thursday evening 5-7pm. For Gi, you will weigh in on Friday 5-7pm.

If you are taking part in both, you will have to weigh in twice.

Where can I stay?

The JJIF have not mandated an official hotel for this event so you can stay anywhere but we would suggest near the venue.

How much will it cost?

Entry Fees: Entering a category will cost 150 Euros…per category.

Comp Fees: If the JJIF offers a couple of choices as to where to stay, then there is usually a cheaper option – but typically 100 -170 Euros per night will cover this, It usually includes transport too and from the venue and breakfast. We can confirm this nearer the time.

Flights: Flights will depend upon who you use, where you are from, and how soon you book the tickets. Typical prices are anywhere between £100-£200 each way.

Other costs: You will need to pay for your airport transfers and local travel to and from the venue, Uber does operate in Zadar. You;ll also need to pay for food/drinks.
